COCOA

Cocoa is one of Papua New Guinea’s most valuable agricultural exports, known for its distinctive flavour, fine aroma, and organic quality. Grown primarily in coastal and island regions such as East New Britain, Madang, and Bougainville, PNG cocoa is cultivated under traditional shade-grown systems that preserve biodiversity and enrich the soil. The majority of production is led by smallholder farmers, many of whom rely on cocoa as their primary source of income.

Longland Trading works directly with these farming communities and cooperatives to ensure quality control at every stage, from pod selection and fermentation to sun-drying and bagging. This hands-on approach guarantees that our cocoa meets the expectations of premium chocolate makers and buyers worldwide.

SUSTAINABILITY & ETHICAL PRACTICES

At Longland Trading, we are committed to supporting environmentally sustainable and socially responsible cocoa farming. Our partnerships promote natural farming methods, such as shade-grown cultivation and organic composting, that protect soil health, reduce deforestation, and preserve the ecosystems where cocoa thrives.

We work hand-in-hand with smallholder farmers and cooperatives to promote ethical sourcing through fair pricing, transparent supply chains, and consistent training. By investing in post-harvest processing facilities and providing agricultural support, we empower local communities to increase yields, improve quality, and maintain traditional practices.

Our vision is to deliver exceptional cocoa that not only meets global demand but also uplifts rural livelihoods and contributes to the long-term sustainability of PNG’s cocoa industry.
